The Periodic table webquest due 12/07/07

Introduction
As a top researcher you have been asked to present to a group of High school students the following topics:
The different properties of the elements and why they are classified in groups, periods and sections of the periodic table?
Why scientists use the different representations of the elements based on their periodic properties?
The names assigned to the different groups of the periodic table and why they are called that way?

The task
You need to post in your blog the results of your investigation on the periodic table, turn in a paper of not less than two pages explaining ho the properties vary in the periodic table and what is the name of the four main section of the periodic table explaining why the elements are included in those sections. Extra Credit power point presentation on the topics investigated.

The process
As you research the different topics it is recommended that you start posting your information and share your blog URL with other classmates that way you can refine your understanding of the periodic table and increase your chances of a successful presentation.
Write the paper only after you refine your ideas using the input of your other classmates. Remember to verify the information you obtain by looking in at least three deifernt references. (do not forget your book)
After you summarize the information in your paper you are ready to do your power point presentation.

Mass extinction

Ass Extinction Webquest

Introduction
As a consultant for the National Geographic Society you have been asked to develop a scientific explanation for the different geological disappearances of the majority of the species in different stages of the geologic time line.

The task
You have to research how many times natural phenomena have occurred that motivated massive extinction of species, and find a scientific explanation of why these events occurred.

The process
You are going to visit the suggested URL and research in the library for major extinction events and what can have triggered them.
You will present your information in your blog, turn in a three page paper with at least three references on your findings, and as extra-credit a Power Point presentation covering the major extinction events and their possible causes. Minimum two slides per event.

Evaluation

Content
Beginning 1 Less than 2 events of extinction correctly addressed and limited information about which species were affected.
Developing 2 Includes only 3 events of extinction correctly addressed and limited information about which species were affected.
Accomplished 3 Includes 4 events of extinction correctly addressed and includes information about which species were affected limited information on why these species were affected.
Exemplary 4 Includes 5 events of extinction correctly addressed and enough information about which species were affected and why.
